About Us

History
We were founded in April, 1952 by the Comboni Missionaries. Father Zelindo Marigo placed the first stone of what was then known as "The Tepeyac and Carpinteria San Jose Orphanage". In November, 1954 Father Carlos Tocin began the building which was completed in 1962. In 1964 he also established a second location for infants and children under six.

Today the orphanage is managed by Father Fernando Quezada Covarrubias. Along with our staff, he places a strong emphasis on the overall development of the children who live here.

Mission
Our mission is to provide a home, protection, support and education to our children while they are with us. This mission is at the core of the Catholic Church and is in accordance with the guidelines and programs of the Public Education System.

Support
We rely on donations from various commercial organizations, private benefactors, and service organizations Also, we could not exist without the unconditional help and support of the women volunteers of El Grupo de Damas. Their efforts to raise public awareness, collect basic supplies and solicit donations for special occasions is invaluable. Their work also gives the children a greater sense of community and belonging. Learn more...

We also support ourselves with our Print Shop. Our shop prints everything from business cards to event posters. The income from the shop goes to purchase much-needed supplies to help improve the lives of our children. The older children can choose to work in the shop and learn a skill that will help them earn a living when they leave us.
